So, I am remembering my late paternal grandmother today. It would have been her birthday. Actually, no one is really sure what is the true date of her birth. She told some people that her birthday was the 23rd and some she told it was the 24th! It has always been a little joke in my dad's family. Anyway, I am posting right in the middle of the two just to be sure!
I loved my grandma. She was the type of grandma that watched daily soap operas and got entwined in their lives as though she was their neighbour! No matter where she was during that time of day, she insisted on sitting in front of the TV and watching. She would have loved the whole PVR thing nowadays! She drank tea. She collected salt and pepper shakers and those tiny tea spoons that boasted of all her travels and they were on display on the wall in her kitchen. In her younger years, she did a fair amount of travel. I remember that she went to Egypt at one point and had her picture taken riding on a camel, which she handed out to all 19 of her grandchildren! She was notorious for having naps in the middle of the day (sometimes even during the soaps!) but if you mentioned it to her, she denied it - every time. Even if you saw her eyes closed, her slumping over to one side and snoring, she still would tell you that she had not fallen asleep!
Before she passed away, she started putting names on all of her belongings so that we would all get a piece of her when she was gone. One of the items that I received and treasure is the orange vase pictured in the LO above. I am sure that it does not have much monetary value, but for me, it is priceless.
Even though I have plenty of fond memories, I wish I had spent more time asking about the stories of her life. Now I am left to try to piece things together the best I can. This is why I am going to leave a complete story of my life for my grandchildren. This is why I do scrapbooking.
