So, I have been participating in a 30 Day Photo Challenge.
I first discovered this challenge through Amy Tangerine, who shared about the challenge at Oh So Lovely.
I really have wanted to hone my photography skills this summer, so I accepted the challenge and decided to play along. Instead of posting the photo each day, as the challenge suggests, I am scrapbooking them (of course).
1. self-portrait - me running stairs with my daughter Jessica
2. what i wore - black tank, coral skirt, pink sweater
And days 3, 4, and 5:
3. clouds - a great shot of fluffy white clouds just as we were leaving Superstore
4. favourite colour - why purple of course!
5. someone i love - tried a shot of Sean before he left for work but it didn't turn out so well, so i'm happy to have this one of my girls
I made this album from scratch a few months back...which is similar to this homemade album!
So, in between finishing up the Tulsa Mini Scrapbook on the Road and other projects, I am taking on this little photo challenge too!
More to come on this later this week...

So, I just love this layering style of Marcy Penner and so I have used it again!
I have not used buttons in forever, but it just seemed like the thing to do here! I knotted a bit of Baker's twine through the holes and adhered it with silver glitter glue.
I also pulled out the velum again! In layering the title over the vintage paper, I wanted to be able to still see the text underneath so velum seemed like the perfect solution. I simply stamped my title on the velum (be sure to let it dry fully), trimmed and adhered with a glue stick. I know in the past velum had a bad rep due to the fact that the glue always showed through, but this seemed to work.
I see scrappers all over blogland using tags, so I thought I would too! Love the tail of Baker's twine!
For me, the best part is all of the layers and curling edges. Love it!
How about you?

So, here is another set of pages from my Tulsa Mini Scrapbook on the Road...
The journaling card on the right side is from Ali Edwards and I printed it at home before I left. This page was not originally in my book, but I needed more space to tell the story, so I simply punched it and used it as it's own page.
The page on the right is an acrylic page covered with a piece of an actual sewing pattern. Here I adhered photos on top...
...and on the back I was able to journal on the pattern. The right hand page here is painted chipboard. I was able to write my journaling right on top of that too!
These embellishments are ones that I had stamped at home and brought along.
I love this journaling page. Not my idea. This one is, again, from Ali Edwards and she calls them line stacks. I drew these lines on cardstock with a Sharpie marker, but you can find them digitally at Designer Digitals.
More to come tomorrow...

So, I am finally ready to share my Tulsa Mini Scrapbook on the Road project with you!
The cover of my little album took some heat (literally!) and some of the stickers melted off in the 100+ temperatures while in Tulsa. I am currently looking for some adequate replacements.
This first shot is an Instax Mini photo of us after arriving in the Tulsa airport and Jackie was there to greet us! Sorry it is so dark in this photo.
Boarding passes and a quick Instax shot with our Starbucks drinks at 5am!
I must say, having the Instax Mini Camera was brilliant for taking quick shots while traveling. Everyone loved seeing the instant shots. However, I did have a little issue going through security.
I had researched online before leaving whether or not the scanners would damage my instax film. There were varying opinions, but it seemed they agreed that one pass through should not hurt it if it is 800 ISO or less. Many also suggested asking for the film to be hand-inspected rather than go through the scanner.
Well, the nice security man agreed to do an inspection on my boxes of unopened film, but insisted I open the camera or else the camera (full of film) must go through the scanner. I could not open the camera to show him the film since it would expose the rest of the film, so through the scanner it went!
Luckily I did not notice any damage to the film during our stay. However, knowing that the film had already been scanned once, I did not want to take another chance on the way home. I purposed to use up all of my Instax film while in Tulsa to avoid another scanning, but that meant I had no film to shoot with on the way home. Thoughts to ponder for next time...
We all had arrived at the airport in different stages and finally met up 'on the other side' after we all cleared customs. We all traveled down together on the same flight, but our seats were all separate. I was fortunate enough to be across the aisle from Crystal so we asked the kind gentleman between us to switch seats and he agreed.
The first flight took us to Dallas, where we had to take the Skytrain to another terminal to catch our flight to Tulsa. The two babies traveled so well, we were all impressed! Poor Diana though...only minutes after losing the wheel on her stroller, Tenley peed all over the front of Diana! We had a good laugh over that and even attracted the attention of other travelers who tried to help out!
This shot is one of us all dressed up to go out for dinner. We clean up pretty nice, if I do say so myself! After dinner, we got a babysitter for the two little ones and went out dancing!
Since I had created the empty album before leaving home I found that some photos just needed to go on certain pages, but that would require them to be out of order chronologically. Typically I am severely particular about this sort of thing. I don't want to miss a single detail and I want the complete story - in order! Doing this album challenged me to let that go. The story is still there and looking back, it does not disrupt things too much to be out of order in some parts. So, you will see the rest of this story documented elsewhere in the album...
More shots of us in the airport waiting for the next flight.
Finally, we arrived. The heat hit us like a wall since we are only accustomed to temperatures of around 20C with very little humidity! Jackie's pool was a welcomed treat once we had settled at her house.
More to come tomorrow...

So, my eldest is starting her last year of high school and thinking a lot about what will come next.
It is so hard to believe that she will soon be graduating and moving on to something and/or somewhere else! Not sure how I feel about that right now...pushing that aside as I still have 10 months to ponder those feelings.
For now, it is exciting to see Jessica's motivation to research and learn and make a wise decision about her future. She is an academic student, so really, the field is hers to play in. Herein lies the problem...she can/wants to do everything! She is having trouble narrowing it down. And, she is apprehensive to go in a particular direction and discover that it is not what she wants.
Oh, I remember those same thoughts and feelings well. Wasn't I just finishing high school a few years ago?
On Another Note:
This layout is inspired by a new muse that I recently stumbled upon... Marcy Penner. I was so taken by the simplicity (not a lot of clutter) of her layouts as well as the complexity (several layers) that I was immediately prompted to scraplift one of her LO designs! Over the past few days I have spent more than a few minutes looking at and admiring Marcy's LOs...just love them! And she is Canadian!
Who is your current inspiration?

So, here is the seventh and final post about my Chase Mini Scrapbook on the Road.
You can view all of the previous posts about this mini album below:
And here are the remaining pages to complete this album...
Once again, using patterned paper strips as washi tape to decorate. The "happy" stamp is from Michaels.
This is a strip of only two trading card pockets. In the top pocket is an Instax Mini photo of the wharf and on the bottom is number paper, then I made a green circle to indicate the number of days we spent together.
On the back is a piece of patterned paper with a stamp from Michaels and a pic of Ash in the paddle boat on the lake.
The blue dots here are formed from a stamp (Michaels). Down the side of the pic I adhered a strip of gems from my stash. The camera is a great stamp that I found, guess where...Michaels! The butterfly is punched with a Martha Stewart punch and the journal strip is a generic label from the dollar store.
This page is all very simple and self-explanatory...the flowers are stickers from K&Company (from the same set as the flower on the cover of this album.
On this doily page I added a shadow picture of my mom, Ashley and I taken while on a walk.
Okay, this page originally was just the ledger paper that you see, but it was too small for the pic and some journaling, so I extended it by adhering the journaling card (printed at home before leaving from Ali Edwards). Then I embellished with stamps.
So, now the back is also improvised with the extended space. Again, I used pieces that I had pre-stamped at home before leaving.
This was a short page. I love the yellow woodgrain paper. The paper flowers were added once I was home.
An Instax Mini photo, a kraft sticker from Making Memories and a few more stamps.
This page is my ABC's of Chase. I got this idea from the Amy Tangerine class that I took at BPC.
And there you have it...the completed album!
I absolutely loved doing this album. This is the first time that I have done anything like this and I cannot wait to do it again. It was so easy to take a few minutes in the evening to print a few pics and stick them into the book. The memories were fresh and I just went with whatever I felt like. It was so freeing to just adapt to what came each day. I didn't even keep the events in the order that they happened...and I was okay with it!
I really recommend trying a journal like this. You will love it...just like I did!

So, I have finally completed my entire Chase Mini Scrapbook on the Road!
I made a few changes to the cover, as you can see above. I added the little pink car. It was a clothing tag from one of the items we acquired while shopping and I knew it would be just perfect. I also cut off the pink ribbon ties. They just seemed to always be in the way.
If you would like to see where I left off in this album, you can look back on Part 5.
This is a page of ledger paper that I adhered an Instax photo (sorry, it's a bit dark), a bit of stamped letters and a kraft sticker from Making Memories.
This is the front of an envelope. And it really is not as fluorescent as it appears here! I still have not been able to secure some washi tape, so I improvised with strips of patterned paper.
I created a tab for opening and closing the flap of the envelope without having to use the adhesive closure. I punched a scalloped circle and added a chipboard square for stability. On the underside I adhered a circle of velcro that allows me to open and close the flap as I please.
Here you can see the velcro circles (found at the dollar store) and our receipts and clothing tags that I saved from our day of shopping!
A few pics of our purchased items, decorated with a scalloped circle cut in half to resemble clouds like Amy Tangerine likes to use.
This page is just decorated with my various stamps and a tag punch.
Here I used a journaling ticket (Tim Holtz), a circle tag (Stampin Up) and stamps.
More stamps and a little journaling on strips of kraft paper. Again, I used strips of patterned paper scraps in place of washi tape.
This page is the score card from the place we golfed almost every day.
I added a pic of my mom and I, as well as a little clock embellishment from Making Memories that I have had in my stash forever!
On this page I simply adhered number and letter stickers.
I am going to stop there. Even though I still have more pages to share. I will show you the final pages of the album tomorrow...I promise that will be the end. It really feels good to be done.

I arrived back in the country on Wednesday night after a remarkable trip. As planned, I worked on my Tulsa Scrapbook on the Road and am excited to share it with you over the next few days.
I spent this holiday August long weekend catching up with family and friends, resulting in more stories to share in the near future.
I have also been working to complete my Chase Mini Scrapbook on the Road and share those final pages with you!
Typically, I participate in the One Little Word Blog Hop each month, but because I was away most of July, I have not even started this month's project! So I have that to complete and share too!
So, it is good to be home, and now I am busy with lots of projects that I am anxious to share!
Hope your summer is going fabulously...
