Often, I groan at the thought of summer ending. Being a teacher and having the summer off is a pretty good deal. I have no schedule for 6 weeks... I can do whatever I want... I am free... I can wear shorts and flip flops everywhere... the sun is out... I can run any time of day...
But summer comes with a few drawbacks too. I am home all the time, which means my house gets messy and I continually do dishes. I usually get nothing significant done because I end up going outside to read, or meet up with a friend for coffee. It is too hot to sleep at night and I often wander down to the basement to try to sleep. I eat way too much!
Don't get me wrong, I love summer. But today I am having very strong feelings of appreciation for autumn! With this season comes warm days but cooler evenings (which means a good night's sleep), a great big orange moon, the emergence of a few light layers of clothing, long drawn-out sunsets, more routine and efficiency (due to taking limited time seriously) and the desire to sit around the fire in the evening and drink hot chocolate.
September, you are a welcomed friend.
Come settle in beside me...
...and a great big
HAPPY LABOUR DAY
to all my Canadian friends today!
