So, along with many others, I love the Raskog carts from Ikea.
During the week leading up to Easter I was on a break from work and decided it was time to completely gut and reconfigure my craftroom. It had become too cluttered and disfunctional and I was seriously lacking the inspiration to create in there anymore. Does that ever happen to you?
I literally started by pulling everything out (except my large Expedit shelf which was just too heavy to move) in order to reimagine where everything could and should go. A major item that I removed to free up space was a large desktop that was attached to my bookshelf. I turned the bookshelf on its side and it too became a repurposed surface.
One of my goals was to get rid of all the various organizational boxes and drawers and baskets that were piled everywhere. I needed to clear off my horizontal surfaces and make them more useful for creating rather than storing stuff.
Enter the Raskog cart. Wanting to be reasonable, I had purchased only the teal cart last year. I wanted to see how I would use it before investing in a few more (which was inevitable). I was pleasantly surprised to see that it slid perfectly underneath of my work table that I stand at to work on PL spreads. I found myself storing all the bits and pieces (sequins, buttons, wood veneer, etc.) in the top shelf of the cart and just sliding it out to make my selections. It is super slick.
When I was able to see that there was a purpose for these carts in my scraproom, I scurried off to buy 2 more. This time I purchased the dark grey ones. Love. (And I see that they have now come out with cream-coloured carts, which are of course calling my name).
Purging and resorting my supplies made me happy. I was able to repurpose or give away many of my previous storage boxes. That felt good. Now, most everything resides in these carts. My supplies are so close at hand as I slide the carts in and out from under my work table as needed.
It is amazing to me how much more I want to create in my little room now that I have some breathing room.
